Rules

The development of a race car for the Formula Student Electric is put under rules, which give a lot of freedom in the designing-process. This is intended to encourage the creativity of students and to produce an incentive to develop individual solutions.
However, because of high priority on safety of drivers and spectators, numerous safety regulations have to be observed.

In developing the Monoposto (single seater car with exposed wheels), it is to ensure that the battery performance-limitation of 85 kW (115.6 hp) is not exceeded, as well as the maximum battery voltage of 400 V or 600 V depending on the venue. In combination with modern lightweight materials and lightweight concepts, a great power to weight ratio is achieved, whereby the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h is possible in under 3.5 seconds.

To ensure the safety of the driver in a crash, every team has to prove sufficient security mechanisms and security structures. Among other things, a front and side impact structure, two roll hoops and seat belts based on FIA standards are required.
