Competitions

Formula Student Combustion is a international, collegiate design competition which was launched in 1981 by the "Society of Automotive Engineers” (SAE) in the U.S. and did establish in Europe in 1998.
To date, seven venues around the world has been established by the Formula SAE, in which student teams compete annually with their prototypes in static and dynamic disciplines. Actually, more than 430 teams worldwide (including approximately 140 European) are participating with combustion engine-driven race cars.

Since alternative drive concepts gain importance for the future, the Formula Student also tries to face the new challenges.
In 2010, the first Formula Student Electric competitions, in which only purely electrically driven race cars are allowed, took place in Germany and Italy. While the number of participating teams was limited to only 15 in 2010 at the Hockenheimring in Germany, in 2011 already 31 teams competed. For the future, a further extension of the number of teams is expected.

The GreenTeam Uni Stuttgart contested with the first car E0711-1 already in 2010 at the successful debut in Germany and Italy with the overall victories.
This led to the goal, to contest every year with a newly developed and improved race car at the competitions in Germany at the Hockenheimring and in Italy. In addition, in the future, still more competitions are expected to be contested.
Meanwhile, the GreenTeam is developing the E0711-3, which is the third generation of self-developed electric race cars.
